Shreya Ghoshal has postponed her Kolkata concert in response to the protests following the brutal rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor. Scheduled for September 14, 2024, the concert will now take place in October 2024. The singer announced the change on August 31 via social media, emphasising the need to stand up for women’s safety and respect. Singer's decision comes as the city grapples with outrage over the tragic incident.
Expressing her solidarity with the victims, Shreya highlighted the importance of addressing such issues in her statement. "I am deeply affected by the gruesome and heinous incident that recently took place in Kolkata. Being a woman myself, the very thought of the sheer brutality that she must have gone through is unthinkable and sends shivers down my spine. With an aching heart and with deep sorrow, my promoters and I wish to reschedule our concert ‘Shreya Ghoshal Live, All Hearts Tour Ishq FM Grand Concert’ which was originally scheduled for the 14th of September 2024 to a new date in October 2024," her statement read.
"This concert was highly anticipated by all of us but it is absolutely imperative for me to take a stand and join you all in solidarity. I sincerely pray for the respect and safety of the women in this world, not just our country. I am hopeful my friends and fans will accept and understand our decision to push this concert. Please stay together with my band and myself as we stand United against the demons of humankind," she added.

Shreya Ghoshal's Kolkata concert, originally set for September 14, 2024, has been rescheduled to October 2024, with the new date yet to be announced. Her decision comes amid heightened national concern over women's safety. The public's outrage was initially sparked by the brutal rape and murder of a doctor in Kolkata.
To date, the investigation into the rape and murder of the Kolkata doctor has led to only one arrest: Sanjoy Roy, a Kolkata Police civic volunteer, who is currently in judicial custody.
