Korean movies to screen at Cannes 2023: South Korean entertainment industry has taken over the world with its spectacular films and shows and has gained a huge fan following over the years. The domination of South Korean cinema continues as several Korean films have been selected to screen at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival.
As Cannes 2023 has already kickstarted, take a look at which Korean film will be screened at the film festival.
1. Hopeless:
Song Joong-Ki's film 'Hopeless' will be screened at the Cannes Film Festival 2023. The movie revolves around a young man named Yeon Gyu who wants to escape his difficult life. He later meets Chi Geon, who’s in charge of middle management for an organization, the two set out together in the hopeless world. 'Hopeless' will be screened in the Un Certain Regard section.
2. Cobweb:
Cobweb revolves around a director Kim, who is with the ending of the film 'Cobweb' filmed in the 1970s. The movie stars Song Kang-ho, Im Soo-Jung, Oh Jung-se, Jeon Yeo-been, and Krystal Jung in the lead role.
3. Project Silence:
'Project Silence' is a story of people struggling to survive against an unexpected threat while trapped on the Airport Bridge on the verge of collapse. Directed by Tae Gon KIM, the movie stars Lee Sun-kyun and Ju Ji-hoon in the lead role and will be screened in the Midnight Screening section, an out-of-competition category.
4. Sleep:
Directed by Jason Yu, Sleep stars Lee Sun-kyun and Jung Yu-mi as a newlywed couple. The movie will follow the story of the husband, who experiences severe cases of somnambulism. His condition keeps getting worse despite receiving treatment and this situation makes his wife worry about their newborn. It will be screened at Cannes' Critics Week Section.
5. In Our Day:
In Our Day revolves around a middle age woman and an elderly man going about their daily lives. Directed by Hong Sang-soo, the movie stars Kim Min-hee, Ki Joo-bong and Song Seon-mi in the lead role. It has been selected as the closing film for the Cannes Directors’ Fortnight section.
