Singer Sonu Nigam is known for being vocal about his views on matters happening in the music industry and the nation. As always, he didn’t hold back after being excluded from the Best Playback Singer (Male) category at the IIFA Awards 2025, recently held in Jaipur, Rajasthan. He slammed the organizers for reportedly not nominating his track “Mere Dholna 3.0” from Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3.Sonu Nigam, who is known for his illustrious career in the industry, took to his Instagram handle and shared a screenshot of the Best Playback Singer (Male) category list from IIFA along with a message that read, "Thank you IIFA... After all, you were answerable to the Rajasthan bureaucracy."

The singers nominated in the category were Arijit Singh for the song "Sajni" from Laapataa Ladies, Karan Aujla for "Tauba Tauba" from Bad Newz, Diljit Dosanjh and Baadshah for "Naina" from Crew, Jubin Nautiyal for "Dua" from Article 370, and Mitraz for "Akhiyaan Gulaab" from Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya. Jubin Nautiyal bagged the award in the Best Playback Singer (Male) category.

Soon after his post, fans and industry members showed their support in the comments section. Singer Amaal Mallik wrote, "Such is the world that we live in…. Mazaak banake rakh diya hai." Jjaan Kumar Sanu commented, "Dada, you are above these awards, to be honest. We all love you."

Some netizens pointed out that the exclusion of Sonu Nigam’s song from the IIFA nominations might be linked to the time when he lashed out at the Rajasthan Chief Minister after he left his performance midway in December last year. The singer had called the act disrespectful toward an artist on his Instagram handle. One user wrote, "For everyone who did not understand, a few days ago Sonu ji slammed the CM of Rajasthan for leaving his concert midway, and this year's IIFA took place in Jaipur, so it's not hard to believe that the CM's influence affected the nominations. That's what he meant by the caption."
