Sunil Lahri, the actor known for his role as Lakshman in the iconic TV series "Ramayan," has expressed his disappointment with the voters of Ayodhya. He criticised the constituency for not supporting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the recent Lok Sabha elections, labeling their actions as a betrayal. Despite the party's leadership in inaugurating the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya this January, BJP's Lallu Singh lost the Faizabad constituency to Samajwadi Party's Awadhesh Prasad in the results announced on Tuesday, June 4.

Sunil's strong remarks included stating that the people of Ayodhya should feel ashamed for not backing the party that has been closely associated with the development and promotion of the Ram Mandir in the region. Taking to his social media, he posted a note in Hindi, which translated to, "We are forgetting that these are the same Ayodhya citizens who doubted Goddess Sita after she returned from exile. What do you call the person who even denies God? Selfish. History stands proof that the citizens of Ayodhya always betrayed their king. Shame on them."

In the following post, he added, "We salute your greatness dear citizens of Ayodhya, you are the ones who didn’t spare even Goddess Sita. We are not shocked that you betrayed the man who made sure that Lord Ram came out of that small tent and was installed in a beautiful temple. The entire nation will never see you with respect again."

Sunil Lahri congratulates Arun Govil

Meanwhile, Sunil Lahri’s 'Ramayan' co-star, Arun Govil, who portrayed Ram, contested the Lok Sabha elections from Meerut in Uttar Pradesh. The latter emerged victorious, defeating Samajwadi Party candidate Sunita Verma.

Congratulating him, Sunil expressed his happiness. He said, "I am happy that two people, I really like, have won the elections. First, Kangana Ranaut. She is the epitome of women empowerment and has won from Mandi (Himachal Pradesh). Second, my elder brother, Arun Govil, who won it from Meerut. Congratulations and best wishes to both of them."
