Comedian Jamie Lever recently announced that she is taking a break from social media, a decision that quickly sparked speculation online, especially after a recent incident. Many believed that this move came after Jamie faced backlash for posting a mimicry video of Bigg Boss 19 contestant Tanya Mittal, which was harshly criticised in the comments section. Amid these speculations, Jamie clarified that this has nothing to do with Tanya and the recent controversy involving her, but is for her personal reasons. She wants to spend quality time with her family after a busy year.
Addressing the buzz about her social media break, Jamie told Times of India, "This has nothing to do with Tanya Mittal. I don’t know how people connected the two things. In my post, I wrote, ‘I lost a part of me’ because 2025 has been a very busy year. I have just come back from my US tour. I have done films and other projects. I realised I lost time with my family and that’s what I meant by, ‘I lost something this year’. So, it was just me saying I need time. I needed to detox from social media because it can be exhausting to have to deal with messages and expectations of people.”

Reacting to trolling over the Tanya mimicry video, the comedian added, "Tanya has not reacted to my video. I have zero communication with her. I think trolling people has become the new thing."
Jamie has carved a niche for herself on social media by posting impression videos of personalities like Farah Khan, Asha Bhosle, Kareena Kapoor Khan and many others. However, the recent video on BB19 Tanya Mittal received immense criticism, with many accusing her of body shaming the spiritual influencer.
Emphasising her 12-year journey, Jamie stated, “I didn’t expect this reaction. I have been mimicking people for the past 12 years and mimicry has been going on in our country for so many years. It is an art form and the highest form of flattery. When you mimic someone, it is not considered mockery."
The controversy erupted after Jamie shared a video recreating Tanya’s emotional moments from the show Bigg Boss 19. In the clip, she mimicked Tanya’s crying expressions while posting scenes from the show. Many praised her art, while others slammed her for the same.
Addressing accusations of body shaming, Tanya, Jamie added, “When people say things like, ‘You are body shaming her,’ I want to tell them that when you are mimicking someone, you are obviously going to use the person’s body language. The facial expressions and tonality of the voice require a lot of skill to do that. If you don’t understand mimicry or dislike the video, then don’t watch it."
She also confirmed that she will be back on social media next year, and for now, she is on a social media detox.
