With a successful run spanning over 15 years, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah has become a household favourite, offering continuous entertainment and becoming an integral part of viewers' daily routines. Helmed by Asit Modi, the show has undergone several changes in its cast, with new actors consistently bringing fresh interpretations to iconic roles, thereby enriching beloved characters. However, a notable transformation has been witnessed in the character of Tapu, central to Gokuldham Society, has undergone significant development through Bhavya Gandhi, Raj Anadkat, and now Nitish Bhaluni, each contributing their distinct style and enriching the show's enduring legacy.
Bhavya Gandhi began, who began his journey with 'Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah' (TMKOC) in 2008, portraying the original Tapu, quickly rose to prominence as one of the highest-paid child actors in Indian television, then. Reportedly earning Rs 10,000 per episode, his tenure with the show lasted until 2017, when he decided to bid farewell to the character to explore other acting opportunities.
In 2017, Raj Anadkat stepped into the role of Tapu, succeeding Bhavya Gandhi in TMKOC, infusing the role with his unique charm and personality. His compensation reflected the significance of the role within the show, reportedly earning Rs 20,000 per episode—double what Bhavya Gandhi earned. Raj Anadkat entertained the audience until 2022, when he decided to quit. His departure also coincided with reports of disagreements with the production team regarding unpaid dues, marking the end of his tenure on the show after a successful stint as Tapu.
Next, in 2023, Nitish Bhaluni took on the mantle of Tapu, inheriting the responsibility to carry forward the character's legacy. Reports indicate that Nitish's salary matches that of his predecessor, Raj Anadkat, at Rs 20,000 per episode. This parity in compensation underscores the show's dedication to maintaining the high standards set by previous actors and underscores the pivotal role of Tapu in 'Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah's narrative.
