Box Office Analysis: After a lackluster start to 2024 for the Punjabi film industry, only two films, 'Shinda Shinda No Papa' and 'Jatt Nuu Chudail Takri,' managed to achieve double-digit collections both domestically and worldwide. However, the year is expected to conclude its first half on a high note with the release of Diljit Dosanjh and Neeru Bajwa's 'Jatt & Juliet 3,' marking their return to the blockbuster romantic comedy franchise since 2013.
The top 5 Punjabi films with the biggest opening day in India are led by 'Carry on Jatta 3,' which earned approximately 4.55 crores net. Following it are 'Honsla Rakh' with 2.52 crores, 'Shadaa' with 2.40 crores, and 'Carry On Jatta 2,' which brought in 2.35 crores on its opening day. Now, with the release of 'Jatt & Juliet 3,' the Diljit Dosanjh film has claimed the second spot with a first-day collection of approximately Rs 3.25 crore net in India.
Carry On Jatta 3
The Punjabi-language comedy film directed by Smeep Kang and produced by Humble Motion Pictures. As a sequel to 'Carry on Jatta' (2012) and 'Carry On Jatta 2' (2018), it stars Gippy Grewal, Binnu Dhillon, and Sonam Bajwa in the lead roles, with Gurpreet Ghuggi, Kavita Kaushik, Nasir Chinyoti, Jaswinder Bhalla, B.N. Sharma, and Karamjit Anmol in supporting roles. The film was theatrically released on June 29, 2023, and marked the largest release for a Punjabi movie with over 560 screens in India and 500 locations across 30 countries.
Jatt & Juliet 3
Directed by Jagdeep Sidhu and starring Diljit Dosanjh, Neeru Bajwa, and Jasmin Bajwa, Jatt & Juliet 3 continues the beloved Jatt & Juliet film series, which began in 2012. The franchise follows Punjab police officers on their adventurous missions to Canada, where they face unforeseen obstacles. The film captivates audiences with Diljit Dosanjh and Neeru Bajwa's dynamic on-screen chemistry and engaging performances, solidifying their status as beloved stars in Punjabi cinema. The first day collection stands at approximately Rs 3.25 crore net in India.
Honsla Rakh
The romantic comedy film directed by Amarjit Singh Saron and starring Diljit Dosanjh, Sonam Bajwa, and Shehnaaz Gill, marks the debut of Diljit Dosanjh as a producer. It was released worldwide theatrically on October 15, 2021. Set in Canada, Honsla Rakh tells the story of a divorced father raising his son on his own. As he starts dating, the film explores the ensuing romance and comedy. The film is currently among the highest-grossing Punjabi films with a worldwide gross of Rs 54 crore (US$6.5 million) and is loosely based on the Kevin Hart movie 'Fatherhood.'
Shadaa
Romantic comedy film directed by Jagdeep Sidhu and produced by Atul Bhalla, Amit Bhalla, Anurag Singh, Aman Gill, and Pawan Gill under the banner of A&A Advisors and Brat Films. The film stars Diljit Dosanjh and Neeru Bajwa in the lead roles. The story follows Chadta (Diljit Dosanjh), a young man who is under immense pressure to get married. Despite numerous attempts and humorous situations, he remains a bachelor, or 'shadaa,' which is the Punjabi term for an unmarried man. Neeru Bajwa plays the role of Vanjhali, a wedding planner who challenges Chadta's ideas about love and marriage.
Shadaa was released on June 21, 2019, and became a commercial success. It grossed over ₹50 crore worldwide, making it one of the highest-grossing Punjabi films.
Carry On Jatta 2
