Ranbir Kapoor’s much awaited come back to the romantic-comedy genre of films has already done its magic on the box-office. His latest release Tu Jhoothi Hai Makkaar crossed the Rs 100 crore mark at the worldwide box-office within 6 days of its release.
While Ranbir Kapoor is known for his power-packed performances in Sanju, Rockstar and Barfi, there is no denying that every school and college going girl had a massive crush on the Bollywood star in the ‘10’s. His irresistible charm in movies like Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Bachna Ae Haseeno and Wake Up Sid got him the ‘chocolate hero’ tag early in his career.
Ranbir Kapoor Says 'Felt Like I Retired From Rom-Com'
In a recent interview, Ranbir Kapoor reflected upon why he drifted away from the rom-com genre. "I think it was a mix of a lot of things. It may have been conscious. Also, there were other films that were being offered to me. I always have had bad luck with my films taking a long time. Barfi took 2 years and Rockstar took a while too. I also felt that the kind of rom-coms that were being made or being offered to me weren't too exciting,” the actor told a leading entertainment outlet.
Ranbir Kapoor said that in his head, he was retired from this genre and thought nobody wants to watch rom-coms anymore. But with the super success of Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, the same seems to be untrue.
Ranbir Kapoor: That Guy In Films You Can't Help But Fall In Love With
Agree or not, Ranbir Kapoor’s image has been engraved as the guy who exits a wedding after getting heartbroken. Case(s) in point: Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, Bachna Ae Haseeno and even Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar. The audiences never seem to get enough of his effortless charm onscreen as the boy searching for love.
Even with Ranbir Kapoor turning 41 this year, he is one of the most sought after actors for both movie makers and audiences when it comes to a boy-meets-girl kind of a movie. And why not? Majority of Ranbir Kapoor’s biggest hits are of the rom-com genre of films.
Ranbir Kapoor will next be seen in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s out-an-out action film, Animal. The actor will be sporting a bulky physique with long hair and will be performing high-octane action sequences as well. The actor will then take a break from work to reportedly spend time with his newborn daughter, Raha Kapoor.
Will Ranbir Kapoor Do Another Rom-Com Anytime Soon?
This means that the audiences will have to wait for a few more years (atleast, if not forever) to see Ranbir Kapoor oozing charm and casting a spell on women all over the country with those eyes. But with the super success of Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, it has been well established that we haven’t got enough of watching the Mr. Kapoor in rom-com films just yet.
