Singer Anup Ghoshal Passes Away: Bengali singer Anup Ghoshal, renowned for his soulful rendition of "Tujhse Naraz Nahi Zindagi" from the 1983 film 'Masoom' and his timeless contributions to several musicals by Satyajit Ray, passed away on Friday at the age of 77, as confirmed by his family. The revered artist had been under medical care for age-related ailments at a private hospital in south Kolkata for several days, ultimately succumbing to multi-organ failure at 1:40 pm.
Anup Ghoshal, a multifaceted talent who not only left an indelible mark on the musical landscape but also ventured into politics by successfully contesting the 2011 assembly polls from the Uttarpara seat on the Trinamool Congress ticket, is survived by his two daughters. His legacy encompasses not only his musical brilliance but also his foray into public service, creating a lasting impact on both the cultural and political spheres.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also condoled the demise of Anup Ghoshal. According to a report in Indian Express, Bannerjee said, "I express my deep grief and condolence over the death of Anup Ghosal who had sung in Bengali, Hindi and other languages."
Anup Ghoshal Awards And Recognitions
Anup Ghoshal, a distinguished artist, received several notable honors throughout his illustrious career. In 1994, Mayor Richard M. Daley of Chicago bestowed upon him the honorary citizenship of the city, recognizing Ghoshal's significant contributions to the world of music.
In acknowledgment of his exceptional musical talents, Ghoshal was awarded the Gold Medal in the Sangeet Bharati Degree Examination for the years 1967–1968. This prestigious accolade stands as a testament to his prowess in the field of music. The year 1992 saw Ghoshal's outstanding contribution to Bengali cinema recognized with the Bengal Film Journalists' Association Award for Best Male Playback in the film "Goopy Bagha Phire Elo." Additionally, in 1983, he earned the same accolade for his remarkable performance in the Hindi film "Masoom."

Ghoshal's versatility and brilliance extended beyond regional boundaries, earning him the National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer in 1981 for the Bengali film "Hirak Rajar Deshe." His artistic finesse also garnered appreciation from the Bengal Film Journalists' Association in 1971, where he received the Best Male Playback Award for the Bengali film "Sagina Mahato."
Through these accolades and awards, Anup Ghoshal's musical legacy is not only celebrated locally but also recognized on a broader stage, marking him as a luminary in the realm of Indian music.
