Twinkling Watermelon: Plot
'Twinkling Watermelon' revolves around an 18-year-old teenager born to deaf parents and has a natural talent for music and singing. He travels to the past in 1995 when his parents were also 18 year olds and finds out his father was not born deaf. He decides to help his father and change his future by joining a Twinkling Watermelon.
In an interview with Hindustan Times, Shin Eun Soo, who plays the role of Ha Eun-gyeol's mother Yoon Cheong-ah, talked about learning sign language for the show. She said, "When I started learning sign language, I found it difficult because it was new to me and I was learning a new language. I practised a lot so that Chung-ah would be more proficient and natural in later scenes where she would be using sign language to express many emotions as well as communicate. Once I knew I was proficient enough with constant practice, I had a great time shooting it.”

Her character is a big fan of Mexican painter Frida Kahlo and revealed that she researched about the artist while preparing for her role. She told Hindustan Times, "While portraying Chung-ah, I researched Frida Kahlo and became interested in the painter as well. Through time travel, I wish to meet Frida Kahlo and examine her life, and then share with Chung-ah what it was like and how she overcame adversity and made a strong statement in her works”.
The show also stars Jung Hyeon-jun, Choi Won-young, Lee So-yeon and Seo Young-hee in the pivotal roles.
