Alaya F-starrer 'U-Turn' is the official and the seventh remake of the 2016 Kannada film of the same name. Directed by Arif Khan and written by Parvez Sheikh and Radhika Anand, the movie also stars Priyanshu Painyuli, Aashim Gulati, Manu Rishi Chadha and Rajesh Sharma.

The Plot:

Alaya plays the role of a journalism intern, Radhika Bakshi, who investigates bike riders violating traffic on a city flyover. However, her investigations take a dark turn after she becomes the suspect in the murder of one of the motorists. After a series of murders and suicides, the police and Radhika try to find the real culprit.

The Review:

What works for the film

'U-Turn' starts on an intriguing note which manages to capture your attention. Even though the movie diverts a little from the main plot to a love story and flashbacks, the tone of the film remains the same and it does not break your attention. The performances by Alaya F and Priyanshu Painyuli are convincing enough to keep you hooked, whereas, Manu Rishi Chadha steals the show in his supporting role.

What does not work

'U-Turn' is able to keep you hooked in the beginning, but the plot becomes very dull as the film continues. The movie had the capability of becoming a good horror film or a good suspense thriller but it is neither. From trying to scare the audience with cliches like jumpscare and shadows, the movie suddenly takes a 'U-Turn' and becomes a murder mystery.

This transition in the film is not engaging enough and the movie becomes a snooze fest instead. The plot twist in 'U-turn' is the only thing that is able to save the film from becoming a predictable whodunnit.

Acting:

Alaya F as Radhika Bakshi gives an earnest performance in the film but does not get enough chance to show off her acting chops. Priyanshu Painyuli is convincing as Senior Inspector Arjun Sinha and complements Alaya on the screen very well.

Meanwhile, Aashim Gulati as Aditya is completely wasted in the film and does not get any chance to perform. Rajesh Sharma as HSP Saxena is also underutilized in this horror-thriller. However, Manu Rishi Chadha as Indarjeet Singh Dhillon shines among all the actors and is very impressive in his scenes.

Final Thoughts:

Despite a weak storyline, 'U-Turn' is a decent one-time-watch film. However, do not have any huge expectations as the film doesn't have anything new to offer that you haven't seen before.
