Assam’s beloved singer and cultural icon Zubeen Garg died tragically in a scuba diving accident in Singapore. With his untimely death, an episode from his life has resurfaced in public memory. Zubeen once found himself caught in a major controversy during the 66th Central Rongali Bihu Sammelan that took place in Majuli. What should have been a celebratory occasion had, however, taken an unexpected turn. During his acceptance speech, Garg made remarks that sparked strong reactions both within Majuli and across Assam. He openly voiced his disapproval of addressing Satradhikars as divine figures, declaring, “Common people refer to the satradhikars as Lord. It is not acceptable at all. Krishna was never God… he was a man.”

Zubeen's statements, which challenged long-held religious sentiments, were met with shock and criticism from many quarters. Within hours, a clip from his speech surfaced online, triggering heated debates.

Zubeen Garg died in a tragic scuba diving accident in Singapore, as reported by PTI. Garg was in Singapore to perform at the North East Festival. Despite being rescued and rushed to the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries. Zubeen Garg's death has sent shockwaves across Assam and the Northeast, with fans and colleagues mourning the loss of a musical legend.

Zubeen Garg was a renowned Assamese singer and multi-instrumentalist who sang in over 40 languages and dialects. He played 12 instruments and was Assam's highest-paid singer, known for his work in Assamese, Bengali and Hindi film industries. Zubeen was shot to fame with the song Ya Ali from the Emraan Hashmi and Kangana Ranaut-starrer Gangster. Later, he gave several hits, including Dil Tu Hi Bataa from Krrish 3.
