Who Was Anil Mehta? Know About Malaika Arora's Father As He Dies After Jumping Off Terrace

Malaika Arora's father, Anil Mehta, reportedly took his own life by jumping from the terrace of his Mumbai home, according to police reports on Wednesday. Several Mumbai Police officials are on-site investigating the incident. The cause of the suicide remains unclear, and no suicide note has been found. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination.

Anil Mehta, originally from Fazilka, Punjab, was a Punjabi Hindu who dedicated a significant portion of his career to the Indian Merchant Navy. His work in the merchant navy provided him with stability and earned him respect both professionally and within his community. Anil married Joyce Polycarp, a Malayali Christian, in a culturally diverse union. Together, they had two daughters, Malaika and Amrita Arora.

The marriage eventually ended in separation, which had a profound effect on his daughters, particularly Malaika. Growing up in a broken family was a challenging experience for Malaika, who has openly discussed the emotional difficulties she faced as a result. Despite the separation, Anil's legacy includes his contributions to his profession and the impact he had on his family.

In July 2023, Malaika Arora's father, Anil Mehta, was admitted to the hospital, prompting Malaika to visit him alongside her mother, Joyce. Additionally, Malaika celebrated Christmas in 2022 with both of her parents present.

In a previous interview with Grazia India, Malaika Arora reflected on her parents' separation and the challenging childhood it brought. She shared, "My parents’ separation allowed me to observe my mother through a new and unique lens. I learned a rock-steady work ethic and the value of getting up each morning to do whatever it takes to become fiercely independent."

"I had a wonderful childhood, but it wasn’t easy. In fact, in retrospect, the word I would use to describe it is tumultuous. But tough times teach you important lessons too," the actress added.

Meanwhile, Malaika Arora was away from home when her father took his own life, reportedly in Pune. Upon hearing the tragic news, she quickly returned to Mumbai. Additionally, her ex-husband, Arbaaz Khan, arrived at her parents' residence shortly after learning about the incident.
