Biggest Bollywood Box Office Flops, 2023: In the cinematic landscape of 2023, several blockbuster hits like 'Jawan,' 'Pathaan,' 'Gadar 2,' and 'Animal' have illuminated the silver screen, capturing the hearts of audiences far and wide. However, not all that glitters is box office gold, as some high-budget films with stellar casts found themselves in the shadows of commercial disappointment. Movies such as Prabhas' 'Adipurush,' Salman Khan's 'Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan,' and Akshay Kumar's 'Mission Raniganj' faced unexpected challenges at the ticket counters, despite the star power behind them.

Interestingly, the year witnessed a curious twist where some films, despite receiving positive acclaim from critics, struggled to weave their magic in the theater's spotlight. This intriguing dynamic adds an element of mystery to the cinematic landscape, reminding us that the unpredictable nature of the box office is an intricate dance between star-studded expectations and the nuanced tastes of the audience.

Biggest Bollywood Box Office Flops

Selfiee

Akshay Kumar experienced the weakest box office opening in his career with the movie ‘Selfiee’, directed by Raj Mehta. The film, featuring Emraan Hashmi as well, hit theaters on February 24 but unfortunately did not perform well, facing a significant setback in terms of audience response and box office earnings.

Adipurush

Crafted with an estimated budget of Rs 550 crore, the movie ‘Adipurush’ managed to accumulate a net total of Rs 288 crore within India, with an additional reported net earning of Rs 35-38 crore from overseas markets. Combining these figures, the film reached a worldwide net total of approximately Rs 325 crore. However, the striking aspect is that the movie incurred a staggering net loss of Rs 225 crore, highlighting a significant financial setback despite its substantial global earnings.

Kuttey

Featuring a diverse ensemble cast including Tabu, Arjun Kapoor, Naseeruddin Shah, Radhika Madan, Konkona Sen Sharma, and Kumud Mishra, the movie hit theaters on January 29, 2023. Unfortunately, it faced challenges at the box office, earning only ₹4.65 crore in contrast to its ₹35 crore budget. This financial outcome categorizes the film as a box office flop, indicating that it struggled to cover its production costs despite the presence of a talented and well-known cast.

Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan

Hitting theaters on April 21, 2023, coinciding with Eid, "Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan" was released theatrically. Crafted with a production and marketing budget of approximately ₹125 crore (US$16 million), excluding Khan's salary, the film managed to garner an estimated gross of over ₹182.44 crore (US$23 million) globally. Despite its worldwide earnings, the movie garnered mixed reviews from critics and fell short of meeting commercial expectations.

Ganpath

With a staggering reported budget of Rs 200 crore, 'Ganapath: A Hero Is Born' emerges as the second major box office disappointment of the year, following closely behind 'Adipurush'. Notably, both films share the lead role, featuring Kriti Sanon. The substantial financial investment in the movie did not yield the expected returns, marking it as one of the most significant underperformers of the year. This unexpected outcome underscores the challenges faced by the film, despite the anticipation surrounding it due to its substantial budget and star-studded cast.
