With Gurugram's population and urban area expanding, the city is getting two new fire stations to improve emergency response times. The Gurugram Fire Department has identified land in Sector 23A and Sector 43, and the official ground-breaking ceremony has already taken place.
Currently, Gurugram relies on only four fire stations located in Bhimnagar, Sector 37, Sector 29, and Udyog Vihar. While these stations have historically covered the entire city, the rapid growth in new residential and commercial developments has made timely emergency response a significant challenge.
Reducing Response Times
A major problem for the fire department is the long travel distance. Fire brigades often have to travel 10 to 15 kilometers to reach an incident, a journey made even longer by heavy traffic. This delay allows fires to spread, leading to greater loss of life and property. The new stations in Sector 23A and Sector 43 will provide immediate assistance to these areas, helping to control incidents in their initial stages and minimize damage.
According to Gulshan Kalra, Joint Director of the Fire Department, construction will begin once the land is acquired from the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP).
In addition to the main city, the Gurugram district also has fire stations in Manesar, Pataudi, and Sohna. However, due to the city's rapid expansion and increasing industrial activities, even these stations are proving insufficient. The new stations are a much-needed step to strengthen fire safety, especially with the rising number of high-rise buildings, commercial complexes, and industrial units across the city.
