A student of Delhi University has been booked by the Gurugram Police after a video of him feeding meat-filled momos to a cow went viral. The incident, which took place in the Sector-56 police station area, sparked outrage among Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) activists, who lodged a formal complaint alleging that the act had hurt religious sentiments.

The Incident And Viral Video

The controversy stems from a video recorded on December 7, which is approximately four minutes long.

The Content: The accused was live-streaming on a social media app, attempting to complete a "task" involving eating momos. In the video, he is seen explicitly asking the vendor if the momos contained chicken. Once the vendor confirmed they were non-vegetarian, a cow approached the young man. Instead of finishing the food himself, he extended the plate of leftover chicken momos to the cow.

The Explanation: During police questioning, the accused explained that he had received the task on social media but was unable to complete it. He claimed his actions were unintentional and expressed regret for the mistake.

Backlash And VHP Action

After the video circulated online, the Vishva Hindu Parishad took notice and tracked down the accused on Monday.

Assault and Complaint: According to reports, VHP activists located the young man and assaulted him before handing him over to the authorities. They subsequently filed a formal complaint at the Sector-56 police station.

Religious Sentiments: VHP officials stated that the cow is considered sacred in Hinduism and the student's actions were disrespectful to religious beliefs. They have demanded strict action against him.

Police Investigation And Accused's Profile

The Accused: The young man is a resident of New Colony, Gurugram, and is currently pursuing a BA in English Honours at Delhi University. Following his apprehension, he publicly apologised for his conduct.

Official Status: The Station House Officer (SHO) of Sector-56 police station confirmed that a case has been registered under relevant sections based on the VHP's complaint. An investigation into the matter is currently underway.
