Veterinary surgeons from the Animal Husbandry Department saved the life of a cobra snake by successfully performing an extremely challenging operation. The snake was in a critical condition due to an injury, which had caused a part of its intestine to protrude and begin to decay.

This complex operation, performed at the Government Veterinary Hospital and Polyclinic in Bhiwani, highlighted the expertise and dedication of the surgeons. Veterinary Surgeon DrJoni stated that the cobra was brought to the Government Veterinary Hospital and Polyclinic, Bhiwani, in a serious condition.

An examination revealed that the snake had a deep injury, resulting in a portion of its intestine protruding from the body, which had started to rot. This extremely delicate case was immediately taken up under the guidance of Dr. Ravindra Sahrawat, Deputy Director of the Animal Husbandry Department, and Dr. Subhash, the Polyclinic In-charge.

The Team That Performed The Operation

The responsibility for the operation was entrusted to Veterinary Surgeon Dr Joni and his expert team, consisting of Dr Hariom and Dr Mukesh. Dr Joni explained that the operation was far more difficult than a typical surgery due to the snake's venom and its sensitive anatomy.

First, the snake was administered general anesthesia. Following this, the decayed portion of the intestine was separated with extreme caution. The most critical phase of the operation was repositioning the intestine back to its correct place and properly closing the wound.

The injured cobra was found by people in Kairu village. Showing compassion, the villagers decided against killing it and instead put it in a plastic bag and brought it to the Veterinary Hospital Polyclinic in Bhiwani for treatment.

According to regulations, the Animal Husbandry Department veterinarians could not directly accept the snake for treatment. Therefore, the Wildlife Department was informed.
