A stretch of approximately 1.5 kilometers of the 'firni' (peripheral road) in Tigaon has become a major hurdle for the Ballabhgarh-Tigaon-Manjhawali connectivity. On October 3, State Minister Rajesh Nagar performed the ceremonial inauguration for the construction of this road. Officials from the Public Works Department (PWD) had claimed that the work would commence within a few days; however, even after the passage of nearly one and a half months, construction has yet to begin.

As a result, more than 30,000 commuters face difficulties daily on this route, which directly connects over a dozen villages. The road is to be constructed using cement concrete at an estimated cost of approximately Rs 5 crore. The department also plans to construct drains for water drainage. It is worth noting that a seven-meter-wide road from Ballabhgarh to the Government School in Tigaon has already been widened at a cost of Rs 16 crore. The plan to widen this road was approved by the Chief Minister following the recommendation of Minister Rajesh Nagar, and State Transport Minister Moolchand Sharma allocated the budget from his quota.

Traffic To Increase Once Manjhawali Bridge Opens

The Manjhawali bridge over the Yamuna River has been constructed, and the approach road on the Haryana side is complete. Now, only the road construction on the part of the Uttar Pradesh government remains pending. Once completed, travel to and from Greater Noida will commence, leading to immense vehicular pressure on the main road of Tigaon.

If the road is not widened, the area will frequently face traffic jams. Consequently, villagers have been continuously demanding the widening of the road. Currently, even a local wedding event causes long traffic jams on this stretch. Once the bridge becomes operational, heavy vehicle movement will also begin on this route.

Work Stalled Due To GRAP Restrictions

Prakash Lal, Executive Engineer of the Public Works Department, stated that the work would have started much earlier, but the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) is currently in force due to pollution levels. However, he assured that the construction of the drains along the road will be started now. Meanwhile, State Minister Rajesh Nagar mentioned that he would speak to the officials regarding this matter and ensure the work begins soon.

What Residents Say

Local residents and business owners have expressed strong dissatisfaction with the delay.

Pankaj Kaushik, a shopkeeper whose mobile store is located along the roadside, stated that the road has been broken for months, causing dust to fly constantly with vehicular movement, and urged for immediate construction.

Echoing these concerns, another shopkeeper, Bobby, highlighted that the condition worsens during the rains, making it difficult for vehicles to navigate the damaged stretch, and called for urgent attention from the authorities.
