In a significant development, 104 Indian nationals who had illegally entered the United States have been deported back to India. A US military aircraft carrying these individuals landed at Amritsar's Sri Guru Ram Das Ji International Airport on Wednesday at 1:55 PM.

Among the deportees, 33 are from Haryana, with the highest number, 11, hailing from the Kaithal district. Additionally, seven of these deportees are under the age of 20, and three women are also among those returned.

The issue of illegal immigration, particularly through the controversial "donkey system," has been a hot topic during Haryana's recent Lok Sabha elections.

Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi raised concerns over this illegal migration during his public rallies in Hisar and Karnal constituencies. Despite the state government's efforts to curb this problem by enacting laws against agents facilitating illegal overseas migration, the number of individuals attempting to leave illegally continues to rise.

One of the most notable deportees is Omi Devi, a woman from the village of Khedi Sakra in Kaithal. However, the return of these individuals may bring more challenges, as the Haryana CID (Criminal Investigation Department) has already received the list of deportees. The list is being sent to district authorities, including deputy commissioners and police chiefs, for further investigation. The authorities will examine the criminal records of the returnees, and if any criminal background is found, legal action may follow.

The US military plane, which had brought back the 104 Indian nationals, left for the US again at 5:32 PM after dropping off the deportees. The deportations come as part of the tougher stance on illegal immigration taken by the US following the Trump administration’s policies. These individuals were found guilty of unlawful immigration and were sent back to India under the US's increased enforcement measures.
