Maharashtra News: BJP emerged as the single largest party in Maharashtra, taking the Mahayuti to a massive electoral victory, while opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi failed to impress the voters with their promises, the results showed on Saturday. Amid the hustle and bustle of assembly results, the outcome of several seats and the fate of many high-profile candidates remained in the limelight throughout the day.
The Thackeray scions - Aditya Thackeray, son of Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray and his cousin Amit Thackeray, son of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena leader Raj Thackeray - were also in the poll battle from Worli and Mahim seats respectively.
While Aditya Thackeray, who was at the forefront of Shiv Sena (UBT)'s poll campaign, registered a victory with 8,801 votes against his closest rival, BJP's Milind Deora; Amit Thackeray's poll debut failed as he finished third after both candidates of two Senas.
Adtiya's poll victory amid a huge upset for the party. The Shiv Sena (UBT) was leading on 21 seats at the time of publishing this story. Uddhav Sena's partners in Maha Vikas Aghadi, Congress and NCP-SP, also fared poorly and were leading on 16 and 10 seats respectively.
While BJP and its allies were leading ahead on 232 seats in the 288-seater assembly in Maharashtra. Mahayuti's astonishing poll win followed a jerk in Lok Sabha elections 2024, which concluded just four and a half months ago.
Meanwhile, after the alliance swept the state, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra expressed gratitude towards the people of the state.
"I will say only this we are bowed before Maharashtra and its people. It has increased our responsibility and Maharashtra has shown its full support for Modi ji and we will do everything to reciprocate their faith in us," Shinde said.
