Arvind Kejriwal News: The CBI arrested Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday in connection with the alleged excise policy scam. His arrest followed the Rouse Avenue Court's decision to allow the probe agency to examine him in the courtroom and instruct it to present the evidence justifying his arrest. In response, the AAP strongly criticised the BJP, accusing the party of panicking and plotting Kejriwal's arrest in a fabricated case.
Earlier in the day, a Delhi court permitted the CBI to formally arrest the AAP supremo in connection with the alleged excise scam. Kejriwal has been in prison since April 1 due to the excise policy-linked money laundering case being probed by the Enforcement Directorate. The Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22 was withdrawn by the Kejriwal government in July 2022 after Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena recommended a CBI probe into alleged irregularities in its formulation and implementation.
BJP On Arvind Kejriwal Arrest
The Delhi BJP stated that Kejriwal's arrest by the CBI in the excise policy case was inevitable, as the agency had submitted incriminating documents against him in court. According to Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva, these documents established that the AAP supremo was the "mastermind" behind the excise policy "scam." He asserted that the policy was formulated under Kejriwal's supervision and a "big scam" was committed.
Arvind Kejriwal Withdraws Plea Against HC Order From SC
Soon after CBI arrested him, Kejriwal withdrew from the Supreme Court his plea challenging the Delhi High Court order granting an interim stay on the operation of the trial court's bail order in a money laundering case linked to the alleged excise scam.
