A huge controversy erupted after a lawyer tried to attack the Chief Justice of India (CJI), BR Gavai, on Monday during a hearing, allegedly for "insulting one of the religions". The act was criticised by several top politicians, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. However, one of the BJP leaders from Karnataka has praised the lawyer by stating that his act should be admired, even though it was "illegal". The attacker on Tuesday stated that he has no regrets, as the CJI allegedly insulted deities. However, CJI Gavai stated that such incidents are not going to affect him, adding that he respects all the religions.

Bhaskar Rao, Karnataka BJP leader and former Bengaluru Commissioner, while commenting on the lawyer's post, praised him for taking a stand for his ideology. "Even if it is legally and terribly wrong, I admire your courage, at your age, to take a stand and live by it, irrespective of consequences," he wrote in the comment section. While replying to his comment, Congress leader Mansoor Khan slammed Rao by reminding him of the key posts he held before entering into politics.

"Even if it's legally and terribly wrong, you admire his courage? Coming from a former IPS officer, this is shameful. You once upheld the law; now you stand with someone who insulted the Chief Justice of India. What a fall," Khan wrote. Rakesh Kishore, the lawyer who attacked the chief justice, justified his actions by stating that the god directed him to attack CJI Gavai.

"I did not do it; God did. The Chief Justice of India mocked Sanatan Dharma. This was the Almighty's order, a reaction to an action," Kishore stated. Earlier last month, a massive controversy sparked after CJI Gavai gave alleged controversial remarks while dismissing a case demanding the restoration of a 7-foot beheaded idol of Lord Vishnu at Khajuraho.
