An Agniveer was killed on Wednesday after suffering from a bullet injury along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district. Officials said that Sepoy (Agniveer), Amritpal Singh posted near the LoC in Mankote area of Poonch district was on sentry duty when the incident occurred.
"The soldier died on the spot. Police have taken cognizance of the incident and started investigation, including medico-legal formalities to ascertain whether the death of the soldier occurred due to suicide or any other reason", officials said.
Singh was found by colleagues in a pool of blood around 5 am, the soldiers were alerted after they heard a gunshot around, an official said, reported news agency PTI.
According to preliminary investigations Singh died of a bullet from his own service rifle. The official said that an investigation into the matter is underway to ascertain the facts.

Meanwhile, President Droupadi Murmu on earlioer on the day paid tribute to the fallen soldiers at the Army headquarters after arriving on a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir, officials said. The president landed at the airport in Srinagar where she was received by Lt Governor Manoj Sinha. She was also accorded a guard of honour on her first visit to the Union Territory, the officials said.
The President then travelled to Badamibagh Cantonment, the headquarters of the Chinar Corps where she paid tribute to the fallen soldiers at the martyrs' memorial.
"Extended a warm welcome to Hon'ble President Smt Droupadi Murmu ji on her arrival at Srinagar airport," Sinha wrote on social media platform 'X'.
Security forces, including police and Central Reserve Police Force, have been deployed in and around Kashmir University.
