A Gujarat doctor has been thanking his family members and god after he decided not to travel on the Air India aircraft that crashed in Ahmedabad. The doctor had booked a ticket for London on June 12 but later cancelled it after his wife and other family members expressed concern over his health. Dr Umang Patel stated that he, along with his family members, had arrived in India on May 24 to visit their ancestral home. He further stated that the plan was to return back to the UK on June 2, but the plan was later cancelled after his father suffered a stroke.
Dr Patel then booked a ticket for June 12 but again cancelled the ticket after the family members asked him to postpone the plan as he was suffering from a fever. He further stated that he decided to cancel the ticket as he was not even able to stand straight due to the high fever.

"I had to go back alone on June 12. However, I developed high fever after a visit to my in-laws' house on June 9. The fever was so high I could not even stand the next morning," Dr Patel was quoted as saying by NDTV.
Dr Patel further stated that he booked the ticket for June 15, adding that the news of the plane crash shocked him and family members. "After my wife requested that I not go to London, I cancelled the June 12 ticket, took some time and booked another for June 15. Then the news of the plane crash came," he stated.
