The high-level committee formed in the aftermath of the Ahmedabad plane crash to probe the incident will hold its first meeting in Delhi today, news agency PTI reported citing sources. The Union Home Secretary will chair the meeting.

The objective of this deliberation is to prepare standard operating procedures (SOPs) to prevent such incidents in the future. The committee will have to submit its report within three months.

The responsibility of the technical investigation of the crash has been entrusted to the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB). The AAIB is investigating the technical failure of the aircraft.

At the same time, this high-level committee will prepare a holistic and policy-based solution to prevent such incidents in future.

Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu had said on Saturday that AAIB will investigate the technical aspects, while the committee headed by the Home Secretary will give suggestions regarding future safety policies and procedures.

As many as 241 persons onboard the London-bound AI171 flight operated by Air India were killed after the aircraft rammed into a doctors' hostel of BJ Medical College shortly after takeoff from the Ahmedabad airport. Only one person managed to survive the incident.

The black box was recovered from the accident site on Friday evening. The black box records technical data related to the flight and the pilot's conversation, which will help in knowing the real cause of the accident.

Air India on Saturday said it has completed the inspection of 9 of its 33 Dreamliner aircraft and the remaining would be examined within the timeline set by the aviation regulatory authority. This came after the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) issued a directive mandating enhanced safety checks on Air India's Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 fleet following a plane crash near Ahmedabad airport.

In a post on X, Air India said the planes of the 787 fleet are being inspected as they return to India, adding that clearance for the next operation is being given after thorough evaluation only.
