Delhi AQI Today:  With the onset of winter, Delhi-NCR has started witnessing high levels of air pollution like every year, with AQI touching the 400 mark on Friday morning in several parts of the national capital. Residents woke up to a thick layer of 'hazardous' smog today with visibility also taking a sharp plunge in comparison to last week. Areas such as Akshardham, RK Puram, Anand Vihar and Bawana have an Air Quality Index rating of 400.

In the absence of steady winds to keep the air flowing, the smog is likely to persist in the coming days as well. According to IMD, Delhi will witness a wind speed of 3-4 kmph and temperature will remain between 18 degrees Celsius to 32 degrees.

Delhi's Health At Risk

Several places in Delhi witnessed a high level of air pollution on Friday, with AQI worsening to over 400 and falling in severe category. According to health experts, winter air pollution, when vehicle emissions, industrial pollutants, and stubble burning combine to create high smog levels, can pose serious health risks. Patients with respiratory issues are advised to use face masks in current air quality.

According to health experts, children, the elderly, and people with pre-existing health conditions are particularly susceptible to the long-term impacts of this exposure to such high air pollution.

AQI At Different Places

Anand Vihar, notorious for its highly polluted air, touched the 483 mark at 6 AM before witnessing a relief and coming down to 414 at 8 am, as per the latest CPCB data. Areas surrounding Major Dhyanchand, Parpatganj, RK Puram, Pusa, and ITI Shahdra also witnessed AQI levels of over 400, painting a gloomy picture of air quality in the national capital.

Meanwhile, Delhi schools have started restricting outdoor activities, such as sports and physical education classes, which expose students to higher levels of air pollution. Delhi government also launched an anti-open burning campaign starting Wednesday to tackle the menace.
