Ajit Pawar Plane Crash: The political dynamics of Maharashtra is likely to change with the untimely demise of deputy chief minister and NCP chief Ajit Pawar in a place crash. Pawar was considered a trusted ally to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and played a key role in keeping the Mahayuti alliance intact. However, with Pawar's sudden demise, the future of NCP and the equation of ruling alliance remains unclear. Fadnavis is likely to take a hit as he reportedly used the negotiation skills of Pawar to keep Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in check.
Equation In Mahayuti To Change?
Fadnavis, during the campaign for the civic body polls, stated that he trusted Pawar as an alliance partner. The Shinde Sena leaders also believe that Shinde could not retain the chief minister post after the 2024 Assembly polls due to the bond between Fadnavis and Pawar, reported the Indian Express, citing sources. However, Pawar's demise will change the dynamics within the alliance with Shinde likely to being more demanding.
Future Of NCP
Despite being in the power, Pawar had hinted that the tensions with his uncle Sharad Pawar had ended and the party workers wanted to unite. “The workers of both parties want to unite. The two NCPs are together now. All tensions in our family have ended,” Pawar told NDTV. Fadnavis will take a hit if Sharad Pawar takes charge of the party as he will probably take the party to the opposition alliance.
In another scenario, even if Pawar decides to remain in the ruling alliance, he might not be very friendly to the chief minister, given their rivalry in the past, reported IE. Apart from the future of party and the ruling alliance, the death of Pawar has also left a void in the politics of western region of the state and has dented the dominance of Pawar clan.
