Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday shared stage with Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at the Trinamool Congress Martyr’s Day rally in Dharmatalla, Kolkata. Speaking at the mega rally, Yadav targeted the BJP and forecasted the imminent collapse of the central government, calling its tenure a temporary phase.

Addressing the rally, Yadav described the ruling party as “guests” who will not remain in power for long. “Those who have come to power for a few days are guests for a few days. The Delhi government is not going to last. That government is going to fall. We will see one day that this government will fall and days of happiness will come for us and you," Akhilesh said.

The SP chief pointed out the unity of the people of Bengal and Uttar Pradesh in resisting these divisive forces. He said that both states have successfully opposed the BJP and similarly the current government will soon be ousted. Yadav highlighted the need for positive politics to protect the Constitution and promised that it would soon replace the current government’s approach.

TMC General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of halting all financial aid to West Bengal. Speaking at a rally, Banerjee claimed that the electorate had delivered a decisive lesson to the BJP in the Lok Sabha elections.

The TMC’s Martyr's Day, observed on July 21 each year, commemorates the 13 individuals who died in Kolkata due to police firing during a 1993 protest by the West Bengal Youth Congress.
