Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah on Tuesday chaired a high-level security review meeting in Bikaner, Rajasthan. The meeting was held to review and assess security arrangements along the Indo-Pakistan border (IPB).

360-Degree Security Grid

During the meeting, it was decided to formulate a 360-degree security framework for all border districts. The integrated approach will involve local citizens, state government machinery, and all concerned security agencies to ensure stronger and more effective border management. The meeting was attended by Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, district magistrates and police superintendents from five border districts, including Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Barmer, Sri Ganganagar, and Phalodi.

Crackdown On Illegal Construction

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs press release, Shah stressed the need for strict enforcement of a zero-tolerance policy against illegal constructions, especially within 0-15 km of the international border. He has directed authorities to identify and demolish all unauthorised structures in these sensitive areas.

Shah has also called for a coordinated border management strategy involving the Border Security Force (BSF), Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), and state agencies. They will tackle infiltration, narcotics smuggling, encroachment, terror financing, and other cross-border crimes. While the district magistrates have been directed to assume enhanced responsibilities.

According to the official statement, additional responsibilities will include ensuring legal and financial compliance of banks, verifying major business establishments, checking funding sources, tracking mule accounts and shell companies, identifying fake Aadhaar cards, and preventing smuggling activities.

The MHA further emphasised that India is firmly committed to ensuring the highest standards of security along the international borders. Shah is currently on a border tour that will cover four states, including Rajasthan, Gujarat, Tripura, and West Bengal. He will visit these states over the next three weeks.
