Bengaluru Aerospace Park Project: Andhra Pradesh Minister Nara Lokesh on Tuesday attempted to grab the opportunity to bring the aerospace project to his state after the Karnataka government decided to withdraw it, following the farmers' protests. Announcing the government's decision on the controversial project, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced the withdrawal of the project and the stoppage of the land acquisition process.

Andhra Minister Offers Land To Aerospace Industry

"Dear Aerospace industry, sorry to hear about this. I have a better idea for you. Why don't you look at Andhra Pradesh instead? We have an attractive aerospace policy for you, with best-in-class incentives and over 8000 acres of ready-to-use land (just outside Bengaluru)! Hope to see you soon to talk across the table," Lokesh's post on X read.

Siddaramaiah's U-Turn After Farmers' Protest

His tweet comes hours after Siddaramaiah announced the withdrawal of the aerospace park in Bengaluru. The Karnataka Chief Minister wrote a note on X after the declaration.

"In keeping with our commitment to protect farmers' interests and safeguard fertile agricultural land, the government of Karnataka has decided to completely withdraw the land acquisition process in Channarayapatna and other villages of Devanahalli taluk in Bengaluru Rural District. While a few farmers had voluntarily expressed willingness to part with their land, the Government has decided to acquire land only from those who willingly offer it. Such individuals will receive enhanced compensation, including larger developed plots and rates above the official guideline value. Farmers who wish to continue agricultural activity may do so without any restriction," the statement read.

Devanahalli taluk, situated near Bengaluru and home to the international airport, is of strategic importance. Industrial development and capital investment are key to boosting the state’s economy, and the availability of suitable land plays a crucial role, he said, adding, the government had earlier proposed acquiring 1,777 acres in the region to establish an aerospace hub, following requests for land near Bengaluru.

"However, the land identified for acquisition is highly fertile and central to the livelihoods of the local farming community. The government, after extensive consultation with stakeholders, recognised the depth of their concerns and the significance of agricultural sustainability in the area. While industrial growth remains vital, the Government prioritises inclusive development. In this spirit, and with full regard for the welfare of farmers and landowners, we have formally withdrawn the land acquisition process in the region," it added.
