Andhra Pradesh: A 70-year-old man was killed after two compartments of the Tatanagar-Ernakulam Express caught fire at Duvvada in Andhra Pradesh's Anakapalli district in the early hours of Monday. The police stated that the fire created panic among the passengers, adding that the other travellers managed to escape. The officials further stated that they received information about the incident at 12.45 am, adding that over 150 passengers were travelling in the affected coaches. While the exact reasons behind the incident is not known yet, the Railways has ordered a probe to assess whether there were any safety lapses.

While providing details, the official stated that the fire broke out in the B1 and M2 AC coaches, adding that it was first noticed by the loco pilots near Yelamanchili railway station. They further stated that the train was halted immediately at the station; however, the flame had engulfed the two coaches before arrival of fire services. There were 82 passengers in one of the affected coaches and 76 in another when the train caught fire. "Unfortunately, a dead body was found from the B1 coach," the official was quoted as saying by PTI.

"A fire broke out in two coaches of the Tata Ernakulam Express near Elamanchili, Anakapalli, early today. The loco pilot halted the train immediately and enabled mass evacuation. One coach caught fire in the accident," Railway PRO was quoted as saying by ANI. The eyewitnesses stated that the passengers panicked and rushed out of the train, adding that the dense smoke had affected the visibility, reported the Hindustan Times.

The incident has disrupted train services between Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada, leading to inconveniences to the passengers. The trains operating on this route have been halted at several stations, including Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, and Tuni.
