The Andhra Pradesh government is considering financial aid for large families after Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu expressed concern about the declining fertility rate in the state. Terming it an “investment in human capital”, CM Naidu expressed his desire to implement this move during a recent interview.
The state government has even amended the law, which prevented people with more than two children from contesting panchayat and civic elections.

Speaking to The Times of India, CM Naidu said the state would provide financial assistance to encourage people to have large families. He said the fertility rate in the state has to be increased, as not doing so could attract several problems.
“I am looking at giving financial incentives by taking a family as a unit. The bigger families may get higher incentives. As part of the ‘Zero Poverty ’ initiative, I have already rolled out an interesting model in which wealthier people will adopt poor families. This will not only bridge income disparities, but also ensure the welfare of the entire family,” the TOI quoted him as saying.
This came days after the TDP chief recently announced that female employees can take maternity leave as many times as they want.
A few days ago, the TDP chief had said that people of the older generation used to have 4-5 children, while the current generation has reduced it to one child. He said now, even more sensible people are saying that we can have fun with a dual income, no children (DINK), adding that if their parents had thought like them, they would not have come into this world.
