In a shocking turn of events, two assistant professors at a central university in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, were arrested after a student accused them of sexual assault, harassment, and blackmail. The victim, a 27-year-old B.Ed student from Odisha, alleged that Dr. Lakshman Kumar abused his position, lured her into his office, and sexually assaulted her.
According to a report by NDTV, the student also claimed that Dr. A. Shekhar Reddy, another professor, allegedly took photographs during the assault and threatened to share them on social media. Following the student's complaint to the anti-sexual harassment committee, Professor Rajanikant Shukla, the in-charge Registrar, filed a formal complaint on December 6.

A special police team traveled to the student’s hometown in Odisha, recorded her statement, examined the assault site, and gathered evidence. Both Kumar and Reddy were arrested on December 9 and presented in court. Additionally, the university suspended the accused professors.
