"In a democracy people have the right to raise their voice against wrong decisions & policies of the govt & register their concerns. BJP govt has shown utter disregard for people's voices & chosen to use brute force to suppress dissent," Sonia Gandhi had said in a video message tweeted by the party last week while condemning government actions and expressing solidarity with people against CAA and proposed nationwide NRC.

Owaisi, on the other hand, had lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and accused him of dividing the country on the basis of religion. "We rejected partition and rejected the invitation of Jinnah. Amit Shah is weak in history. This Darussalam is where Jinnah had come 70 years ago and given a speech. We chose to stay here. This is our loyalty and love for the country. This very ground of Darussalam today hoists the Indian flag," he said on Saturday.

Earlier when Union Home Minister Amit Shah had tabled the bill in the parliament, Owaisi had torn the paper and termed it unconstitutional.
