Arvind Kejriwal Arrest: A day after Delhi High Court dismissed the petition moved by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal challenging his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case linked to an alleged excise policy scam, the AAP national convener on Wednesday moved to Supreme Court against High Court order.
Kejriwal was arrested on March 21 after the high court denied him protection from coercive action by the ED. He was remanded to judicial custody till April 15. The case against the chief minister involves allegations of corruption and money laundering related to the AAP government's excise policy for 2021-22, which was later scrapped.
In a major setback to Kejriwal, the Delhi High Court on Tuesday rejected his plea against ED arrest and his subsequent remand to the probe agency. The court noted that the arrest made by the central probe agency was 'valid.' Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma, who pronounced the order, also observed that Kejriwal was the key conspirator in the Delhi Excise Policy case, and was actively involved in the "use and concealment of proceeds of crime".

"ED had enough material which had led them to arrest Kejriwal. Non-joining of investigation by Kejriwal, delay caused by him was also impacting those in judicial custody," the court said.
After failing to get relief from the High Court, the Aam Aadmi Party said they are hopeful that the Supreme Court will provide relief to Kejriwal in the same way it granted bail to AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh recently.
