Assam Assembly Row: The Assam Assembly witnessed a brief adjournment on March 24 following allegations that Congress MLA Nurul Huda attacked Deputy Speaker Numal Momin outside the House. BJP members raised the issue, accusing Huda of the assault, which led to heated exchanges among lawmakers.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma urged the Assembly Speaker, Biswajit Daimary, to file an FIR, allowing the police to investigate the matter. "I request the Speaker to lodge an FIR, as the incident occurred outside the House. The police will carry out the investigation," Sarma said.

Momin, a BJP MLA representing a tribal constituency, was reportedly hospitalised after the alleged attack. The incident is believed to be connected to an altercation in the Assembly on March 21, when BJP MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi lunged at Opposition benches. Although Kurmi apologised for his actions, the Opposition parties criticised Deputy Speaker Momin for not taking stronger action, such as expelling Kurmi or suspending him from the session.
In response, Congress MLAs wore black attire in the Assembly on March 24 as a mark of protest against Kurmi's behaviour. They staged a sit-in outside the Speaker’s chamber, demanding action against the BJP legislator. Members of the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) also participated in the protest, with some carrying small bamboo fences, claiming they were for protection inside the House. However, they were stopped at the security gate and not allowed to bring the fences in.
