Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP and Rajasthan's Alwar MP, Baba Balaknath, resigned from his Lok Sabha membership by submitting his resignation to Lok Sabha Om Birla today. Recently, he contested the state assembly polls from Alwar's Tijara. The development comes as speculation over the Rajasthan Chief Minister continues. After his resignation, the speculation of him becoming Rajasthan Chief Minister has gained momentum.
On December 6, a total of ten MPs resigned after they won their respective constituencies in the recently conducted assembly polls. According to news agency ANI citing sources, the decision to resign as MPs was taken after meeting with party president JP nadda and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
BJP leader Pralhad Singh Patel who won the MLA election from Madhya Pradesh's Narsinghpur told ANI, "I have resigned as a MP and will resign from the post of cabinet minister soon."
Former Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, Minister of State for Food Processing Industries of India Prahlad Singh Patel, Lok Sabha MPs Rakesh Singh, Uday Pratap and Riti Pathak are the MPs have resigned as MPs after winning from Madhya Pradesh.
Lok Sabha MPs Arun Sao and Gomati Sai resigned after securing wins in Chhattisgarh. Lok Sabha MPs Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Diya Kumari and Rajya Sabha MP Kirori Lal Meena have also resigned after securing wins in Rajasthan.
Meanwhile,
former CM and stalwart leader Vasundhara Raje arrived in the national capital on Wednesday evening. Speaking to reporters at the airport after arriving in the national capital, Raje, who secured a fresh term in the Assembly from the Jhalrapatan assembly constituency, said, "I have come to visit my daughter-in-law."
Vasundhara Raje, a two-time chief minister of the state; Diya Kumari, who has been elected MLA from Vidyadhar Nagar; Mahat Balak Nath, who won from the Tijara constituency; and Rajyavarardhan Singh Rathore, who won from the Jhotwara constituency, are believed to be among the top contenders for the post.
The BJP swept the Hindi heartland in the assembly polls by winning Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh.
