Bengal Weather: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday stated that several districts of West Bengal, including Kolkata, are expected to receive light to heavy rainfall till May 21. It stated that along with heavy rain, these regions will witness strong winds and thunderstorms for the next few days. The weather change is likely to reduce the maximum temperature by two to four degrees Celsius, providing relief from the scorching heat. The IMD advised the residents to follow the guidelines and limit their outings to avoid inconveniences.

"A cyclonic circulation over the southeast Bay of Bengal and an axis extending from Uttar Pradesh to eastern Bangladesh are likely to cause scattered rains with thundershowers in all parts of the state today and the next few days," Akashvani Kolkata stated in a post on X.

South Bengal Districts To Receive Heavy Rainfall 

The weather department stated that several districts of South Bengal, including Kolkata, South 24 Parganas, East Midnapore, West Midnapore, Jhargram, Purulia, Bankura, East Burdwan, West Burdwan, Birbhum, Murshidabad, and Nadia, are likely to receive heavy rainfall for the upcoming days. Apart from rainfall, these districts are also expected to witness thunderstorms and gusty winds with speeds of 30 to 40 kmph.

Rain Epected In North Bengal Districts 

Apart from the southern districts, the weather department also stated that multiple northern districts will also receive rainfall for the next few days. The IMD stated that several districts, including Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, Malda, North Dinajpur, and South Dinajpur, are likely to receive 7 to 11 cm of rain till May 21. It further stated that these districts will also witness gusty winds of 40 to 50 kmph, leading to a dip in temperature of two to three degrees Celsius.

Apart from West Bengal, light to moderate rainfall is expected in multiple states, including Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, and Maharashtra.
