Humayun Kabir, the suspended MLA of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), has claimed that he has spoken to Asaduddin Owaisi ahead of the much-awaited Bengal Assembly polls. He further claimed that the AIMIM chief has promised that he will become "Owaisi of Bengal". Kabir was suspended by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's party for proposing to build a replica of the Babri mosque in the Murshidabad district. The suspended MLA further asserted that he will form his new party ahead of the polls, adding that he will finish the Muslim vote bank of the ruling party.
While talking to the reporters, Kabir stated that he has spoken to Owaisi, adding that he will launch his own party on December 2 with "lakhs of supporters". "I have spoken to Owaisi... Owaisi has given me his word that he is Hyderabad's Owaisi and I am Bengal's Owaisi," Kabir was quoted as saying by NDTV. "I will go to Kolkata on December 10 and form my party's committee and launch my party on December 2 with lakhs of supporters," he added.
However, Owaisi has not spoken on the issue yet and has also remained silent on whether his party will contest Bengal polls. AIIMM contested seven seats in the 2021 Assembly election; however, it could not even open its account. Earlier on Sunday, Kabir had stated that he will field candidates on 135 seats and will become the "game-changer".
"I will form a new party that will work for Muslims. I will field candidates in 135 seats. I will become a game-changer in the Bengal election... Trinamool's Muslim vote bank will be finished," Kabir stated. In the past few assembly elections, a large part of 27 per cent of the Muslim vote in Bengal went to TMC, ensuring its dominance.
The assembly election in Bengal is set to be conducted in the early months of 2026. While TMC will try to repeat its government, the BJP will contest to form its government for the first time.
