Bengaluru: A five-year-old boy, playing in front of his house, was run over by a car allegedly driven by an 18-year-old on Sunday morning. The incident took place at 3rd Cross, Nanja Reddy Colony of Jeevan Bima Nagar in east Bengaluru. The deceased, identified as Aarav, was playing near the road in front of his house around 10:30 am, preliminary investigation stated.

According to police, the 18-year-old Devaraju, who does not have a driving licence, drove his uncle's car recklessly. Eyewitnesses allege that the speeding car also hit the parked vehicles before running over the boy.

Narrating the ordeal to the media, a local resident, Srinidhi says, “We need justice for the child. Police are delaying everything in following the procedure. If they cannot do it, let them hand it over to us. We will teach them a lesson."

"The car had 'police' written on it,” Panduranga, another local, told the media.

“The suspect is the brother-in-law of the owner of the car. He was about to wash the car. He got inside, started it, and pressed the accelerator, which led to the accident. We think neither he has a driving licence nor knows how to drive,” the local added.
