Bengaluru News: The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) chief commissioner T Maheshwar Rao has asked officials to prepare a detailed master plan for Kasturinagar, aiming to upgrade the locality through coordinated infrastructure improvements. The direction was issued during an inspection on Tuesday, covering areas under both East and Central city corporations.
The Times Of India report cited Rao as stating that development projects in Kasturinagar must be implemented in an integrated manner, not through scattered or temporary fixes.
Waste Transfer Point Draws Sharp Criticism
One of the first issues highlighted during the inspection was the poor condition of the waste transfer point under the flyover. The site was filled with debris, broken furniture and mixed waste.

Rao instructed officials to begin an immediate clean-up, ensure regular housekeeping and restore the area for community use. He also ordered the installation of CCTV cameras to prevent illegal dumping and warned that strict action would be taken against violators.
Stormwater Drain And Lake Rejuvenation Work
A blocked stormwater drain leading to Benniganahalli Lake was another major concern. Heavy silt deposits had obstructed the flow of water, prompting Rao to direct urgent desilting. He also instructed the construction of an RCC retaining wall along the service road near the flyover to reduce the risk of future blockages.
Rao asked civic staff to begin rejuvenation work at Benniganahalli Lake, including clearing encroachments around the lake’s boundary.

Land Use, Connectivity And Waste Management Plans
During the visit, the commissioner noted a closed Safal Daily Fresh centre located on BDA land. He asked officials to request the property’s transfer to BBMP. He also instructed them to acquire nearby private land through Transfer of Development Rights (TDR) for future development needs.
To ease traffic movement, Rao urged the railways to speed up construction of the local underpass. He also directed officials to prepare plans for a permanent waste transfer station near Benniganahalli Lake and address congestion at the Puravankara railway underpass. A pedestrian overpass has also been proposed to improve safety for residents.
