The purple line of the Bengaluru Metro is now fully operational after the metro rail services from Baiyappanahalli to KR Puram and Kengri to Challaghatta started their operation on Monday. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRC) started the metro rail services on these two sections of the Purple Line at 5 am on Monday, without any formal inauguration. 

BMRCL in an official statement said, "BMRCL wishes to inform the public regarding the opening of passenger services on the two sections between Krishnarajapura and Baiyappanahalli, a distance of 2.10 km with one station in between at Benniganahalli and the other beyond Kengeri to Challaghatta a distance of 2.05 km with effect from October 9."

The statement stated that with the commencement of these two sections, the East-West corridor or the Purple Line of the Namma Metro is now completed. The Whitefield (Kadugodi) to Challaghatta corridor has 37 metro stations operational covering a total length of 43.49 km.     

Commuters in Bengaluru will now be able to travel from Whitefield (Kadugodi) to Patandur Agrahara in 10 minutes, which will help many to save their time in the hustle and bustle of the city. 

According to BMRCL, with the Namma Metro now completely operational several distances will be covered within minutes like Patandur Agrahara to Mysore Road in 5 minutes, Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Station - Majestic to MG Road in 3 minutes during morning peak hours, Mysore Road to Challaghatta in 10 minutes.

The Bengaluru metro is the second longest operational metro network in India and with the addition of two new sections, it increased from 69.66 km to 73.81 km with 66 metro stations. The Bengaluru Rapid Transit network is a joint venture of the Centre and Karnataka Government.
