Bengaluru Metro Expansion: The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is gearing up for a major service overhaul as the corporation has announced plans to run trains every four minutes on all operational lines within the next two years.
This service upgrade aims to significantly improve commuter convenience, ease crowding and cut travel time across the Namma Metro network. To make the four-minute train frequency a reality, the BMRCL is expanding its fleet, finalising new contracts and pushing to accelerate delivery schedules for new coach sets.
Six New Driverless Trains On Bengaluru Metro Yellow Line
- As part of its expansion, the BMRCL has signed a fresh agreement with the BEML for the procurement of six additional driverless train sets for the Yellow Line.
- These driverless train sets are expected to be delivered by 2027 and will be crucial in managing the Yellow Line's anticipated surge in passenger traffic and facilitating the corporation's overall goal of increasing service frequency.
- The BEML has been awarded Rs 414 crore for six additional train sets (a total of 36 coaches), which are scheduled to join the fleet by 2027.
- The Yellow Line connecting RV Road to Bommasandra connects key industrial zones, tech hubs, and residential areas.

Once the Yellow Line extends further from Bommasandra to Attibele in the coming years, BMRCL stated that an additional 10 to 12 trains will be necessary to maintain optimal service.
The Bengaluru Metro Yellow Line operates with five train sets and the sixth train is expected to be commissioned within the next month. Currently, trains run every 15 minutes on the Yellow Line. Once the sixth train joins service, the wait time will reduce to around 12 minutes.
