Bengaluru Metro Ticket Price: In a major update for the commuters of Bengaluru, the fare of the Namma metro ride will increase by 5 per cent from February 9. While the minimum fare will increase from Rs 10 to Rs 11, the maximum fare will surge from Rs 90 to Rs 95. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) stated that the decision is taken to continue the expansion and maintenance works. However, the passengers are likely to face inconveniences as the fare will increase for the second consecutive year.
As per the officials, the decision was taken after implementing the annual fare adjustment recommended by the Fare Fixation Committee (FFC). They further stated that the revision is mandatory, adding that it will come into effect without even receiving clearance from the state and central governments. The latest move is likely to boost the revenue of the authority, further assisting in the expansion projects.
“The fare revision is part of an automatic formula prescribed by the Fare Fixation Committee. These recommendations are binding on the operator and do not require further approvals. The BMRCL is obligated to implement them as notified,” a senior BMRCL official was quoted as saying by The Hindu.
Currently, the cost of travel between 0-2 km is Rs 10, 2-4 km is Rs 20, 4-6 km is Rs 30, 6-8 km is Rs 40, 8-10 km is Rs 50, 10-12 km is Rs 60, 15-20 km is Rs 70, 20-25 km is Rs 80, and 25-30 km or more is Rs 90. However, the price range is set to change after the latest announcement.
Earlier in February 2025, the authority had announced a hike in the prices of the metro tickets, leading to backlash from the passengers. The BMRCL reduced the charges after a few weeks; however, it had asserted that the increased fare will help in the expansion projects.
