Bengaluru Pink Line Metro Update: The much-awaited driverless metro on the Pink Line has reached a major milestone with the first trainsets arriving at the Kothanur depot, marking a shift from construction and planning to testing and system integration. The six-coach train has been manufactured by Bharat Earth Movers Limited and will now undergo a series of rigorous safety and performance checks before it is cleared for trial runs.

Bengaluru Metro Pink Line: Project Details

  • Length: 21.3 

  • Once completed, the Pink Line will connect Kalena Agrahara in South Bengaluru to Nagawara in North Bengaluru.

  • The corridor will have 13 stations in total and is expected to significantly cut travel time across the city’s busiest areas.

  • Testing will begin on a 7.5 kilometre elevated stretch between Kalena Agrahara and Tavarekere, which has been prioritised as it is structurally ready.

Namma Metro Update: When Can Passengers Travel On

According to the plan, the commercial operations on the stretch are planned for June 2026 with five driverless trains. Subsequently, the full stretch is expected to open by the end of 2026. In total, there will be 16 trainsets, which will be operational.

Bengaluru Metro Pink Line: Features Of Driverless Trainsets

- All these trainsets are built entirely of stainless steel, which makes them durable and lower long-term maintenance requirements.

- They are designed to be energy efficient, with systems that optimise power consumption during acceleration and braking.

- Besides the durability factor, the passenger has also been kept in mind in these trainsets. 

- The trains are equipped with broader inter-coach passages to ease crowd flow during rush hours, ergonomically planned seating, and USB charging points for convenience.

- Furthermore, advanced safety mechanisms are embedded into the automated systems, and every trainset will be subjected to rigorous, multi-stage testing before receiving operational clearance.
