Bengaluru's Deputy Chief Minister and Development Minister, DK Shivakumar, has committed to addressing key demands for rejuvenation of the Vrushabhavathi River and transforming Basavanagudi into a vibrant heritage corridor under the ambitious 'Brand Bengaluru' project earlier on Monday.

During the inauguration of the popular 'Kadlekai Parishe' (Peanut Fair) in Basavanagudi, Shivakumar emphasised the importance of preserving traditions while driving towards modern development.

At the event, DK Shivakumar announced various programs to support farmers and traders, stating, “We aim to elevate the Kadlekai Parishe to an international level. As part of this effort, we have waived tax collection for this year. Going forward, this fair will remain tax-free, offering greater benefits to those involved.”

"We have been cultivating peanuts for generations. I, too, have grown peanuts on our land. Peanuts are often referred to as the 'poor man's almond' and are used in various dishes across Karnataka. Farmers around Bengaluru have done a commendable job of preserving the traditions of agriculture and fairs. We are working to safeguard our culture here at the birthplace of the Vrushabhavathi River," Deputy CM added.

Addressing criticism of the 'Brand Bengaluru' initiative by opposition leaders, Shivakumar confidently remarked, “I understand their concerns. By 2028, I will show them the transformation we achieve under this program, highlighting the projects we’ve implemented.”
