Bengaluru News: A 26-year-old woman, who had married recently, died late on Thursday while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bengaluru, police said. She had been admitted in a critical condition days earlier following an alleged suicide attempt at her parents’ home in east Bengaluru.

According to the police, the woman was found hanging at her parental residence in B Channasandra on Wednesday. Family members rushed her to a private hospital, where doctors placed her on life support. She remained in a coma and did not respond to treatment. She died on Thursday night, following which a post-mortem was conducted and the body was handed over to the family.

Protest At husband’s residence

After the post-mortem, the woman’s relatives took her body to her husband’s house in Vidyaranyapura’s BEL Layout and staged a protest. They accused his family of harassment and demanded immediate arrests. The situation was later brought under control after the Vidyaranyapura police intervened and persuaded the family to disperse.

Dowry death case registered

Based on a complaint filed by the woman’s father, the Ramamurthy Nagar police registered a case under dowry death charges against her husband, Suraj and his family members. The complaint alleged that the woman faced repeated harassment over dowry soon after her marriage on October 29.

Allegations Of Continued Harassment

The father further claimed that the groom’s family insisted on holding a lavish wedding reception at Palace Grounds on November 23, which cost around Rs 40 lakh. He alleged that the harassment continued during the couple’s honeymoon in Sri Lanka, forcing his daughter to return early to Bengaluru on December 21 and stay with her parents.

Police Search Underway

Police said the husband and his family members are currently absconding. Efforts are on to trace them and further investigation is under way.
