Bengaluru Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave warning for several districts of Karnataka from March 15 to 19. With the sharp rise in temperature across the state, Bengaluru has become hotter than Delhi and Mumbai.
Ainapur Hobli Village in Kalaburagi has recorded a blistering 42.8°C over the last 24 hours, making it the hottest place in the state. Meanwhile, Raichur, infamous for its intense summer heat, is also experiencing dangerously high temperatures, reaching 43-44°C.

Amid the surging heatwave, Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao has urged schools, government offices and residents to take necessary precautions. “The government is considering revising work timings for government offices. Officers should avoid outdoor visits in the afternoon, and employees should limit outdoor activity between 12 noon and 3 pm,” Times Now quoted him as saying.
According to the IMD weather forecast, Delhi is expected to experience a maximum temperature of 34°C, with a minimum ranging between 17-18°C. In contrast, Mumbai is anticipated to reach 35°C. Similarly, Bengaluru is also forecasted to see temperatures climb to 35°C this week, making it as hot as Mumbai and slightly warmer than Delhi.
Temperatures across several districts in Karnataka, including Kalaburagi, Bidar, Bagalkote, Raichur, Yadgir, and Vijayapura, surpassed 40 degrees Celsius on Friday, as per the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC). Besides, heatwave conditions were observed in Belagavi and Bagalkote as well.
A total of 17 locations in Kalaburagi, 13 in Bidar and Raichur and 10 in Vijayapura recorded temperatures exceeding 40°C. Other districts such as Tumakuru, Ballari, Gadag, Koppala, Uttara Kannada, Vijayanagara, Chikkaballapura, and Mysuru also saw unusually high temperatures.
According to an analysis by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), temperatures in certain regions of North Interior Karnataka are currently 3.1 to 5.0 degrees Celsius above the usual levels for this time of year. Meanwhile, areas like South Interior Karnataka and Coastal Karnataka are experiencing slightly higher-than-normal temperatures, ranging between 1.6 and 3.0 degrees Celsius above average.
