Bengaluru News: In another case of "Digital Arrest", a software engineer in Bengaluru allegedly lost Rs 1.2 crore after being interrogated by the fake police officers. The 28-year-old woman told police that she even had to take a loan of Rs 40 lakh after the scammers exploited all her savings. The case was registered just a few days after the Karnataka government released an advisory related to "digital arrest".
The woman in a statement to police stated that she received an automated IVR call from an international number in which they claimed that they belonged to the DHL courier services. The caller allegedly claimed that they had received a package in her name.
He further mentioned that the package contained illegal items, including fake passports and ATM cards. The fraudsters instructed her to contact a Mumbai police station to avoid any arrest; however, they asked her to opt for the digital arrest if she wanted to avoid the arrest.

She was instructed to cooperate by transferring the demanded amount. The woman later liquidated her investments and transferred Rs 75.63 lakh to their account. However, the scammers asked her to transfer an additional Rs 55.87 lakh as a bond payment for her property.
