Bengaluru Namma Metro Update: In a major development, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) on Sunday got approval from the Railway Board for its rolling stock on the much-awaited Yellow Line. The authority stated that the third train set is set for service within a week on the corridor between RV Road and Bommasandra. It also stated that while the infrastructure on the route has been ready for several months, the delay in the operation was due to the late arrival of driverless trains. The BMRCL had earlier confirmed that the operation on the Yellow Line will partially begin in June, adding that the full services are likely to commence in September.
Partial Operation Likely To Begin In June
The authority also stated that the Southern Range Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) is soon expected to announce the inspection of the route, further leading to the green signal for operation. “Most of the required documentation has already been submitted. The signalling certification will be sent shortly,” a BMRCL official was quoted as saying by The Hindu.
The BMRCL further stated that they will need almost two weeks to implement the suggestions from the authority, adding that the services on the Yellow Line are likely to begin by mid- or end of June. “The review will include checks on tracks, stations, fire safety systems, entry and exit points, and the train sets themselves. Post-inspection, BMRCL will need approximately two weeks to implement any suggested modifications. Based on this timeline, the Yellow Line could begin partial services by mid or end of June,” the official added.
Earlier on May 15, the BMRCL had stated that only five key stations will be operational in the initial stage, adding that a limited amount of passengers can be accommodated in just three trains. However, it confirmed that the frequency will be increased on the route once the authority receives more trains in the upcoming few months.
